Gulf Coast Wedding Venues: Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Baldwin County, AL

Last updated: October 28, 2026

Alabama's best-known Gulf beaches are in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, and the couples who marry there get white sand, condo resorts and hotels that can host the whole wedding weekend, and waterfront spaces along the bays and canals. Inland, Foley, Elberta, and Robertsdale add barns and country venues with more space and, often, a lower-key feel.

This guide covers wedding venues in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and the Baldwin County towns just inland. We've organized it by venue style and by area, with honest advice on beach permits, hurricane season, and what to ask on a tour. Planning on Mobile Bay or in Fairhope? See our Fairhope and Eastern Shore wedding venues guide. Looking at Mobile and Dauphin Island? See Mobile wedding venues. For the rest of the state, start with our Alabama Wedding Venues guide.

How we list venues: Listings in this guide are free, and we don't sell rankings. If we add paid placements in the future, they will always be clearly labeled "Sponsored." Read our listing policy.

How to Choose a Wedding Venue on the Alabama Gulf Coast

Start with three numbers: your guest count, your budget, and your date. Then use these Gulf Coast questions to narrow the list.

1. Decide: beachfront, waterfront, or inland? Gulf Shores and Orange Beach venues put guests close to the sand and to hotels and condos. Waterfront restaurants and marinas offer views without the beach. Inland barns in Foley, Elberta, and Robertsdale offer more space but sit 20 to 40 minutes from the beaches.

2. Understand the beach rules before you fall for a beach photo. Gulf Shores does not allow weddings on its public beaches, and beach weddings at Gulf State Park access points require a separate park permit. Private beach property and resort ceremonies work differently. The answer depends on where exactly you plan to stand, so read the beach-wedding FAQ below before you plan around a beach ceremony.

3. Map the drive for your guests. The closest airline airports are Pensacola International (PNS), about 60 to 70 minutes from Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, and Mobile Regional (MOB), about an hour and a half to an hour and 40 minutes away. New Orleans is about three hours and 45 minutes from Gulf Shores, and Atlanta (ATL) is about six and a half hours by car. Most guests will fly in and rent a car.

4. Plan around hurricane season and the weather. The hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with the highest risk from mid-August to mid-October. Spring (March through May) and fall (late September through early November) are popular for milder weather; summer is hot and humid with afternoon storms. For any date between June and November, ask every venue about its weather and rescheduling policy.

5. Think about wind, sun, and lighting. Beach and waterfront ceremonies can be windy. Sea turtle nesting season (May 1 through October 31) can limit lighting on the beach at night. Ask each venue what its rules are for lights, candles, and amplified music.

6. Check the vendor and alcohol rules. Many venues require approved caterers or bartenders, and resorts often require in-house food and beverage. Alcohol rules vary by city and county in Alabama; the Alabama ABC Board publishes a list of wet cities. Ask each venue how drinks are handled.

7. Watch for peak weekends and get it in writing. Summer and holiday weekends fill hotels and condos, so reserve guest rooms early. Confirm the deposit, payment schedule, cancellation and weather policy, any required insurance, the hours included, and who handles setup and cleanup.

Questions to ask on every Gulf Coast venue tour

  • What dates do you have open in our season, and do prices change by day of the week?
  • What's included in the rental fee, and what costs extra?
  • What is the maximum capacity for a seated dinner? For a standing reception?
  • If the ceremony is outdoors, where does it move in rain or high wind, and is that space included?
  • What is your policy if a hurricane or tropical storm threatens our date?
  • Do you require specific vendors or event insurance? What are the alcohol rules?
  • Are there room blocks for guests, and what are the attrition and cancellation terms?
  • Is the venue accessible for guests with limited mobility?

Parks, golf, and garden venues

A state park, a pond-and-pier property, a golf course, and a tree-covered estate offer outdoor ceremonies with different backdrops.

Budget Tips for a Gulf Coast Wedding

The Knot's 2026 Real Weddings Study puts the average wedding in Alabama at about $27,000 (ceremony and reception, not including the engagement ring), below the national average of $34,200. Venue prices vary widely by day and season, so ask each venue for a current quote.

Ways to stretch your budget on the Gulf Coast:

  • Look inland. Barns and country venues in Foley, Elberta, and Robertsdale can be priced differently than beachfront resorts with similar capacity. Compare full quotes.
  • Choose a Friday, Sunday, or weekday. Many venues charge less than their Saturday rate, especially in busy months.
  • Consider the shoulder seasons. Late fall, winter, and early spring are usually less in demand than summer. For June through November, weather and rescheduling terms matter as much as price.
  • Compare all-inclusive packages. Some venues bundle tables, chairs, coordination, or lodging. Add up what you'd otherwise rent before comparing.
  • Keep ceremony and reception in one place. You'll save on transportation and avoid a second venue fee.
  • Ask about room blocks and condo rentals. Beach condos can house larger groups. Ask what the venue offers for guests, and what the attrition terms are.
  • Ask for a sample invoice. Service charges, gratuity, sales tax, security, insurance, and overtime fees add up. Get the full picture before signing.

Gulf Coast Wedding Venue FAQs

Can we get married on the beach in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach?

Often yes, but not on every beach, and not without a permit in most cases.

  • Gulf Shores public beaches: The City of Gulf Shores does not allow weddings on its public beaches, including chairs, gazebos, arches, and similar structures. See the City's Gulf Shores beach rules.
  • Private beach property: A wedding on a privately owned beach, such as a rented beach house or condo, may be held with the owner's permission. The City doesn't require a permit for that, but guests may not park in road rights-of-way.
  • Gulf State Park: Beach weddings need a separate wedding permit from Gulf State Park at its Beach Pavilion, Romar Beach, Cotton Bayou, or Alabama Point access points. Rules (for example, no fire, fireworks, balloons, lanterns, or glass) apply, and alcohol must be cleared with the park. The City of Orange Beach directs couples marrying at its public access points, such as Alabama Point and Cotton Bayou, to the park for that permit.
  • Sea turtle season: Nesting season runs May 1 through October 31, and the park restricts flashlights and flash photography on the beach at night. Ask about lighting if you plan an evening ceremony.
  • Not the same as the marriage certificate: The wedding permit is separate from your Alabama marriage certificate (see the last question below).

Rules, dates, and fees change, so confirm everything with the park or your resort before you book.

What about hurricane season?

The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with the highest risk from mid-August through mid-October. A direct hit on a given date is unlikely, but a storm can change travel and venue plans days ahead. Before you sign with a Gulf Coast venue, ask what happens if a named storm threatens your date: Can you move the date at no charge? Is the deposit refundable or transferable? Who decides whether the event goes ahead? Consider travel and event insurance, and set up hotel blocks with flexible cancellation.

When is the best time of year to get married on the Alabama Gulf Coast?

Spring (March through May) and fall (late September through early November) offer milder temperatures and less humidity. Summer is the busiest beach season but is hot, humid, and storm-prone. Winter weddings can be mild but plan for cool, windy days.

How much does a wedding venue cost in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach?

It depends on the season, the day of the week, the guest count, and what's included. Statewide, The Knot's 2026 study puts the average Alabama wedding at about $27,000 total. Weekday dates, smaller guest lists, and venues inland often cost less. Always ask for a full quote with taxes and fees.

What's the closest airport for a Gulf Coast wedding?

Pensacola International Airport (PNS), about 60 to 70 minutes from Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, and Mobile Regional Airport (MOB), about an hour and a half to an hour and 40 minutes away. Atlanta (ATL) is about six and a half hours by car.

How far in advance should we book a Gulf Coast wedding venue?

Many couples book 10 to 14 months ahead, especially for Saturdays in spring and fall and for beachfront resorts. If you're flexible on the date or day of the week, you can often book on a shorter timeline.

Do we need a marriage license to get married on the Gulf Coast?

Alabama no longer issues marriage licenses. Couples complete and notarize an Alabama Marriage Certificate form and record it with any Alabama county probate court within 30 days. Our step-by-step guide explains how: How to Get Married in Alabama.
